Legislative priorities

Federal cuts under H.R. 1 have already taken health coverage from tens of thousands of Washingtonians, and more cuts take effect in January 2027. Washington can't stop federal decisions — but our state can decide whether people lose their care.

The No Cuts to Health Care Coalition is working with the Governor and legislators on policy and revenue solutions that restore care now and protect our health safety net for the long term.

RESTORE CARE FOR THOSE WHO LOST IT ON OCTOBER 1

Last session, the Legislature funded care for nearly 1,200 immigrants losing coverage under H.R. 1. But federal rules changed after lawmakers acted — and today, state funds cover fewer than 200 people.

We ask Governor Ferguson to use every tool available to restore care for Washingtonians who lost it on October 1 — starting with the elders and people with disabilities who depend on long-term care — and to prioritize this funding in his upcoming budget proposal.

RESTORE CARE NOW

accountability

KEEP HEALTH ENTITIES ACCOUNTABLE FOR OUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS

Washington invests billions in our health system, and many health entities receive significant public funding and tax advantages. As Washingtonians lose coverage, we're asking policymakers to make sure those public dollars deliver real care for the people who need it most.

coorporate responsibility

HOLD CORPORATIONS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR FAIR SHARE

Large corporations rely on Washington's health infrastructure to keep their workforce healthy. When our safety net is under attack, they should help sustain it — not leave the cost to working families, patients, and taxpayers.

RAISE TARGETED HEALTH SAFETY NET FUNDS

Washington needs dedicated funding to protect health care access, instead of scrambling every time federal funding changes. Any new revenue should go directly to care people can feel, including:

  • Restore Apple Health cuts

  • Medicaid-like coverage for immigrants who've lost it, through programs like Apple Health Expansion

  • Long-term care for immigrant elders and people with disabilities

  • Cascade Care Savings, which helps Washingtonians afford premiums on wahealthplanfinder.org

Dedicated safety net funding

OUR PRINCIPLES

Care first. Every dollar should go to real health care for real people.

Don't shift the burden. Solutions should not increase costs for working people and low-income families.

Stability. Washington's health safety net shouldn't depend on the next federal decision.

No one left out. Health care shouldn't depend on where you were born, how much you earn, or your disability status.
